His Royal Highness, Oba J.D. Ogunyanda Ilufemiloye, the traditional ruler of Akumarun Okoloke town in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, has been abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Thursday.
The monarch, a second-class traditional ruler, was reportedly kidnapped from his palace by a group of about 30 armed men, believed to be Fulani herders. The incident occurred in Okoloke, a serene agrarian community along the Egbe-Patigi road known for its cultural heritage and agricultural productivity.
Local sources confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers stormed the palace and whisked the ruler away to an unknown destination. As of the time of filing this report, no contact has been made with the abductors, and no ransom has been demanded.
Moses Ayodele, a resident of the community, lamented the deteriorating security situation in the area. “The state of things in our land is dire, with fear hindering entry and progress despite its potential. We cry out to God for deliverance, believing that heaven helps those who help themselves. The sons and daughters of Okoloke and Yagba West are demanding security, justice, and the safe return of our beloved monarch,” he said.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in the western part of Kogi State, where terrorist and bandit attacks have intensified in recent months. Many residents have reportedly fled their homes and farmlands due to persistent threats and violence.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the abduction.
