A coordinated offensive operation carried out by a combined team of security forces has successfully dismantled a notorious criminal hideout located in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The joint security operation, which took place on 24th May 2025, involved personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Military, and operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group. During the raid, the operatives destroyed a local bomb factory and recovered assorted locally made Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which were immediately demobilized.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the criminal enclave had served as one of the final strongholds of a secessionist group that had maintained a stranglehold on the area for more than two years, using it as a base to unleash terror across the state.
The operation, however, faced a significant hazard as one of the IEDs buried around the camp exploded during the raid, causing considerable damage to a nearby road. The explosive device was believed to have been deliberately planted as a shield against incursion by security forces. Despite the blast, no casualties were recorded, and the operation was deemed a success.
“This feat marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal infrastructure and restore lasting peace in Anambra State,” said SP Ikenga. “Security forces have sustained operational dominance and are advancing towards the total reclamation of the area from criminal elements.”
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives as efforts continue to rid the state of criminal activities.
