It is with a heavy heart and deep concern that I write to address the alarming and deeply troubling wave of kidnappings that have become a persistent and terrifying reality in Udenu local government area. What once were isolated incidents have now escalated into a frightening pattern of criminal activity that threatens the safety, peace, and well-being of our entire community.
The surge in these abductions—whether on our roads, within our neighborhoods, or even in the sanctity of people’s homes—is not just a sign of failing security; it is a direct assault on our humanity. Innocent lives have been shattered, families have been thrown into grief, and an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty has settled over our communities. This situation is wholly unacceptable, and it demands immediate and decisive intervention from all levels of government and security agencies.
We can no longer afford to treat these events as mere statistics. Behind every abduction is a story of trauma—of mothers taken from their children, of breadwinners held hostage, of dreams interrupted, and of communities paralyzed by dread. The psychological and emotional toll on victims and their families cannot be overstated. The economic impact, too, is devastating, as people are afraid to go about their daily businesses, travel, or invest in the growth and development of our region.
Let it be clearly stated: kidnapping is an abominable crime. It is a violation of fundamental human rights and dignity. It is a menace that must be rooted out completely. I therefore unequivocally condemn, in the strongest possible terms, these heinous acts of violence and lawlessness that have turned peace-loving citizens into targets.
I call on the government both local government and state, to rise to the occasion. This is not the time for lip service, empty promises, or delayed responses. This is the time for bold, strategic, and sustained action. Our security architecture must be overhauled and reinforced. Intelligence gathering must be improved. Community policing should be strengthened, and the security personnel stationed in our areas must be properly equipped, trained, and motivated to do their jobs effectively.
Moreover, I urge all traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and residents to come together in unity against this growing threat. We must build a strong network of community vigilance and support the authorities with credible information that can lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. Security is a collective responsibility. We cannot and must not sit idly by while criminals run amok.
To the victims and families who have suffered directly from these horrific acts, I extend my deepest sympathies. Your pain is our pain. Your fight is our fight. We stand with you, and we will not relent until justice is served and peace is restored.
Enough is enough. Our people deserve to live without fear. We deserve to walk our streets, attend our schools, tend to our farms, and pursue our livelihoods in safety. We must reclaim our communities and restore our dignity.
Let us rise together, speak with one voice, and demand an end to this madness.
