Workers Lament Short Payment, Disruption of April Salary

Civil servants in Ondo State have expressed frustration and concern over the short payment of their April salaries, following a recent change in the Remita payment platform used by the state government.

While some workers are yet to receive any salary alerts, many of those who have been paid have complained of unexplained deductions from their monthly wages, with amounts ranging between ₦30,000 and ₦100,000. The incident has caused widespread dissatisfaction across various ministries and departments.

A senior civil servant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that over ₦100,000 was deducted from his salary without prior notice or explanation.

It was also gathered that Web Bur, a company involved in the payroll process, was affected by the development, further intensifying concerns within the workforce.

In response to the uproar, a message circulated by the Sunshine Progressive Workers’ Platform urged workers to remain calm, assuring them that the issue was being actively addressed.

“Dear Comrades, RE: APRIL SALARY PAYMENT, be informed that our leader understands the concerns being raised. Some have not received salary alerts yet, while some experienced short payments. Please, we implore everyone to be patient. Leadership is actively monitoring the situation and truly feels your pain,” the message read.

The platform emphasized that workers who were short-paid had been given clear instructions on the steps to take, and noted that in some cases, bank network issues might be contributing to the delays.

Despite these assurances, many affected workers said the situation had caused serious financial stress, particularly at a time when the cost of living continues to rise.

An official from the Office of the Accountant General, who also requested anonymity, confirmed that the ongoing issues were linked to a transition to a new Remita platform, but added that steps were underway to ensure prompt rectification.

The platform’s administrators expressed appreciation for the workers’ patience and reiterated their commitment to ensuring that everyone receives their complete salary without further delay.
