The administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is once again making bold strides in revolutionizing the transport sector in Enugu State. Barely weeks after the launch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, a new wave of innovation is set to hit the streets, Enugu Electric-powered Taxis.
According to updates from the State Government, these soon-to-be-unveiled electric taxis are part of a low-cost, zero-emission fleet designed to offer safer and more environmentally friendly transportation options for residents. The initiative is a continuation of Governor Mbah’s commitment to delivering affordable, efficient, and sustainable public transit for Ndị Enugu.
“Enugu is not just transforming—it is becoming a model city. We are seeing a state that is becoming more organized, structured, and fast emerging as a preferred destination for living and tourism,” a government insider stated.
Recall that just days ago, the state welcomed the arrival of its first fleet of CNG buses, marking a significant milestone in its green transportation agenda. The initiative came shortly after the Ministry of Transport conducted a public recruitment drive, calling on qualified drivers to operate the buses under the Enugu State CNG Bus Mass Transit Scheme.
To support this transition, the government is currently constructing a massive CNG mother station at Ugwu Onyeama, with plans for several daughter stations across the state. This ambitious infrastructure is being developed in partnership with Greenville Energy, and it promises to serve not only Enugu but the entire South East region.
With driver recruitment finalized and infrastructure development moving at record speed, the people of Enugu are on the brink of a new era in mobility efficient, eco-friendly, and tech-integrated public transport.
Indeed, the electric taxi scheme, when launched, will further cement Governor Mbah’s reputation as a visionary leader, determined to redefine urban mobility while protecting the environment and uplifting the quality of life in Enugu State.
