Panic erupted on after a scavenger, unknowingly picked up a bomb in Lagos leaving one dead and many injured, thinking it was a piece of condemned iron. In an attempt to cut the object, the device suddenly exploded, sending shockwaves through the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the scavenger had been collecting metal scraps from a nearby dumpsite when he stumbled upon the explosive device. Mistaking it for part of his usual scrap collection, he proceeded to dismantle it using a metal cutter. The moment his tool made contact with the bomb, it detonated with a thunderous blast.
The explosion caused significant panic, scattering debris and leaving the scavenger severely injured. Locals rushed to the scene, only to be met with smoke, shattered metal, and the disturbing aftermath of the blast.
Security personnel and bomb disposal experts arrived swiftly, securing the area and launching an immediate investigation into the origin of the device. Authorities have since issued a stern warning to the public, especially scavengers, to report any suspicious objects rather than attempting to handle them.
The injured scavenger is currently receiving medical attention under strict supervision. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
