Nigeria Charts Bold Course in Space Sector Regulation Under Renewed Hope Agenda

In a move to position Nigeria as a leading force in the global space industry, key stakeholders gathered for a pivotal workshop on the implementation of the 2015 Regulations on Licensing and Supervision of Space Activities in Nigeria.

Delivering a keynote address at the event, the Honourable Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, emphasized that the forum was not merely a regulatory exercise, but a significant step toward building a modern, transparent, and competitive space ecosystem in the country.

"Space is no longer a domain for dreamers —it is now a strategic resource for innovation, business, and national security," the official stated, highlighting the strategic importance of Nigeria’s space program in the 21st century.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the administration has laid out clear priorities for the sector, which include:

  • Attracting local and foreign investment in Nigeria’s space industry,
  • Enhancing national security through proper orbital oversight,
  • Revenue generation via streamlined and efficient licensing processes, and
  • Fostering indigenous innovation through responsible regulatory practices.

The updated regulatory frameworks aim to ensure:

  • Fair and efficient supervision of space activities,
  • Protection of Nigeria’s orbital and frequency resources,
  • Minimization of risks from space debris and congestion, and
  • Full alignment with international space obligations.

The workshop also applauded the efforts of Dr. Mathew Adepoju and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) for their steadfast commitment to advancing Nigeria’s space agenda.

“This journey cannot be walked by government alone,” the official noted, calling for strong collaboration with private sector players, academic institutions, and international partners.

In an inspiring closing remark, the official declared, “The sky is not our limit; it is our launchpad. We are committed to a future where Nigerian space technology powers industries, drives economic growth, and boldly places our national flag among the stars.”
