HAPPENING NOW!! Pro-Emergency Rule Protest Erupts in Rivers State

A fresh wave of protests has hit Rivers State as scores of women marched through the streets of Port Harcourt in support of the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency.

The demonstrators, bearing placards and banners, called for a thorough investigation into alleged inflated contracts awarded during the suspended administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This protest comes just days after a different group of women protested against Fubara’s suspension and condemned the emergency rule.

President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, citing political instability and a breakdown of governance. The declaration led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly. In their place, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibas as the sole administrator to oversee the state's affairs during the six-month emergency period.

Since his appointment, Ibas has suspended several state officials and made new appointments.
