The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in the early hours of Monday, April 7, 2025.
According to initial reports, heavily armed assailants stormed his residence in Lagos with the apparent intent to take his life. Fortunately, Sego was not at home at the time of the attack, a twist that may have saved him from harm.
Eyewitnesses in the area reported hearing gunshots and seeing a group of masked men fleeing the scene shortly after attempting to force their way into the compound. Security agencies have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to uncover those behind the failed attempt.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but sources close to the union leader suggest it may be linked to internal power struggles or political tensions within the transport sector.
Sego, who has yet to make a public statement, is reported to be safe and under increased security protection.
This developing story has sent shockwaves across Lagos, especially within the transport union community, as concerns rise over growing insecurity and targeted violence.
