Gunmen Abduct Worshippers During Night Vigil on Mountain

Unidentified gunmen have abducted an unspecified number of worshippers during a night vigil on a mountain in Egbola, along Agbaja Road, within Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the assailants stormed the secluded prayer location, firing sporadically to instill fear before forcibly taking the worshippers into the nearby bush.

According to reports by Daily Trust, a woman identified as Mary Adams Gure was rescued during a swift intervention by operatives of the Kogi State Vigilante Services. A source revealed that the vigilantes, upon receiving information about the abduction, mobilized quickly and engaged the gunmen in a gun duel.

Gure managed to escape and later found safety, thanks to the swift intervention of local vigilante members who arrived at the scene in time,” the source stated, adding that a search-and-rescue operation is currently ongoing to locate the remaining victims.

Efforts to contact the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, for an official comment on the matter proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.

The situation has sparked fresh concerns over rising insecurity in remote worship centers and highlights the critical role of community vigilantes in emergency responses.
