Four Years of Abuse, Fear, and Threats – Nigerian Woman Quenny Ogechukwu Speaks Out as She Leaves ‘Abusive’ Marriage

Quenny Ogechukwu, a Nigerian woman, has taken a bold step by leaving her marriage after enduring four years of what she describes as physical assault, emotional abuse, fear, and repeated death threats from her husband, Offorbuike Ernest Ogbuyeme.

In a heartfelt Facebook post made on April 5, Ogechukwu recounted the harrowing experiences she suffered throughout the marriage, revealing that the abuse began even during their courtship but she proceeded with the wedding out of fear of societal judgment.

According to her, Offorbuike would frequently lock her out at night, pour hot tea on her, physically assault her—even in public while she carried a sick child—and threaten to kill her.

“He said he would kill me and make sure I’m not alive to see him go to jail,” she wrote. “He choked me until his fingers left marks on my neck, threw weapons at me, and beat me into submission."

Ogechukwu expressed that she no longer felt safe in her own home and had become mentally and emotionally traumatized. She said she had reached her breaking point and decided to leave, not just for her sanity but to protect her children from witnessing the ongoing violence.

“I may not have loved myself enough when I married him, but I love my kids enough to keep them away from a man who beats their mother in their presence,” she said.

She concluded the post by apologizing to both families for finding out through social media, but affirmed that making the issue public was the only way to strengthen her resolve and protect her future.

“If your advice is for me to return to him, you are officially my enemy. The only advice I will entertain is one that supports my safety and that of my children.”

Ogechukwu has promised to take the legal steps necessary to dissolve the marriage and pursue peaceful co-parenting if possible.
