Enugu State Hosts Strategic Stakeholders’ Engagement on the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill

Enugu State recently hosted the regional stakeholders’ engagement on the draft National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, a critical step in shaping Nigeria’s digital future.

Organized by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the session convened policymakers, technology experts, entrepreneurs, academia, and civil society groups to review and provide input into the bill, ensuring it reflects the realities and aspirations of citizens across all regions.

Leading Enugu State’s participation at the engagement were Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Special Adviser to the Governor on MSMEs and Digital Economy and Director-General of the Enugu SME Center, alongside the Honorable Commissioner for Science and Technology. Their presence underscored the State’s deep commitment to fostering innovation, enhancing digital service delivery, and promoting a future-ready economy.

Representing the Enugu SME Center and the Office of Digital Economy, Mr. Chilo-Offiah emphasized the State’s strategic investments in broadband infrastructure, digital skills training, MSME empowerment, and the operationalization of state-wide e-governance platforms. These initiatives, he noted, align with the broader national vision of a digitally inclusive, transparent, and innovation-driven Nigeria.

Key discussions during the session focused on expanding digital infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity, enhancing data privacy, promoting efficient digital government services, and unlocking opportunities for startups and MSMEs within the digital economy.

The active participation of Enugu State reflects the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to position Enugu as a regional leader in technology, innovation, and governance. The Enugu SME Center and Office of Digital Economy, working closely with the Ministry of Science and Technology, continue to drive programs that empower citizens, support businesses, and transform public service delivery.

while the consultation process advances, Enugu’s contributions will be instrumental in ensuring that the final bill fosters innovation, inclusion, and sustainable economic growth, not just for the State, but for the entire nation.
