Adefowora Abiodun, one of the suspected promoters of the cryptocurrency trading platform, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), who was recently declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has voluntarily surrendered himself to the anti-graft agency.
Abiodun turned himse in at the EFCC headquarters on Monday, April 28, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., accompanied by his legal team.
The development comes days after Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja approved the EFCC’s request to arrest and detain six promoters of CBEX pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged offenses related to a fraudulent investment scheme estimated to be worth over $1 billion.
The six individuals declared wanted by the EFCC are:
- Adefowora Abiodun
- Adefowora Oluwanisola
- Emmanuel Uko
- Seyi Oloyede
- Avwerosuo Otorudo
- Chukwuebuka Ehirim
The EFCC's application to declare them wanted was presented by the Commission’s counsel, Fadila Yusuf. After reviewing the affidavit evidence, supporting exhibits, and hearing the counsel’s submission, Justice Nwite ruled that the application was meritorious and accordingly granted it.
Upon surrendering, Abiodun expressed his willingness to cooperate with the EFCC in its ongoing investigation. His counsel, Babatunde Busari, noted that his client decided to voluntarily submit himself to clear his name and correct what he described as a "false narrative" being circulated about his involvement.
The EFCC is continuing investigations into the matter, and further expected following the outcome of interrogations and findings.
