The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has been suspended by the university’s Governing Council.
The suspension follows a sexual harassment allegation leveled against him by a senior official of the institution, Engineer Folasade Adebayo.
The decision was reached during an emergency online meeting of the Governing Council held on Monday, April 14, 2025.
The action came after the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, expressed displeasure over the university’s initial handling of the matter, where the Council had allegedly dismissed the complaint and asked the complainant to apologise.
Dr. Alausa reportedly contacted the Chairman of the Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, directly to demand action.
In response, the Council convened and resolved to suspend Professor Fasina.
Professor Fasina later requested to proceed on his accumulated leave instead of an outright suspension. The Council accepted the request, approving a six-month leave, which includes 126 working days from his 228-day leave entitlement—effectively ending his tenure early.
Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, a Professor of Soil Science and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), has been appointed as Acting Vice Chancellor, effective the same day, April 14, 2025.
