The Ward 1 Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Okasime Olowojoba, has been abducted by gunmen. The incident happened on Saturday near Sasaro, a spot notorious for kidnappings along the Auchi-Benin-Ibillo Road.
Olowojoba was returning to Igarra from Auchi after picking up his children who had spent their holidays there. He was traveling with his children and a house help when they were ambushed. The kidnappers initially abducted all the vehicle occupants but later released the children and the house help, taking only Olowojoba into the forest.
A family source revealed that the abductors are demanding a ₦50 million ransom for his release. Efforts to get police confirmation have been unsuccessful, as calls to the Edo State Police PRO, Moses Yamu, went unanswered.
It was also reported that more people were kidnapped in the same area on Sunday.
