BREAKING: Fubara Speaks On Defection to APC

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has debunked speculations circulating online that he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recent unconfirmed reports had suggested that Fubara, alongside Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, were making moves to join the APC as part of a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The speculation intensified after Governor Oborevwori, his deputy, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and key PDP leaders in Delta State officially defected to the APC on Wednesday.

However, reacting to the rumours, Fubara’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Mr. Jerry Omatsogunwa, in an interview with DAILY POST on Thursday, categorically denied any such plan by his principal.

“I doubt if the governor is even aware of the rumoured defection. As it stands now, we are still members of the PDP, and nothing has changed,” Omatsogunwa said.

He reiterated that Governor Fubara remains a committed member of the PDP and currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

“For now, the governor has not talked about defection. He is still a bona fide member of the PDP. Today is April 24, 2025, and as of 9:46 a.m., Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains a PDP governor.”

The statement appears to distance Fubara from the growing wave of defections within the PDP, as speculations continue over potential shifts in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general election.
