BREAKING: Again, Boko Haram Terrorists Take Over Chibok, Kills Seven, Injures Many During Burial

Kopl village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State was thrown into mourning on Monday evening as suspected Boko Haram militants launched a deadly attack during a funeral gathering, killing at least seven people and leaving many others injured.

The assailants struck around 6 p.m. while villagers were attending the burial of a community member. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers opened fire on the mourners without warning, triggering chaos and multiple casualties.

Chairman of Chibok LGA, Hon. Modu Mustaph, confirmed the incident and expressed concern that the death toll may rise. He said many of the injured victims were evacuated to Mubi General Hospital in neighbouring Adamawa State, while local volunteers have continued search and rescue efforts. Plans for a mass burial are scheduled for Tuesday.

This latest tragedy comes on the heels of a separate attack along the Gamboru Ngala–Kala Balge road, where multiple travelers were killed and several others critically injured after hitting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by insurgents.

Reacting to the surge in violence, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Southern Borno in the National Assembly, decried the deteriorating security situation and called for urgent federal intervention. He noted that over ten vigilante members were recently killed in an ambush between Hawul and Garkida in Adamawa.

Senator Ndume also highlighted sustained attacks across other communities in the region, including Sabon Gari, Izge, Kirawa, Pulka, Damboa, Askira Uba, and Chibok, where more than 100 people have been killed in the last month alone.

As fear grips the region, many residents of Kopl and surrounding areas are reportedly fleeing to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and safer locations.

The attack underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram, despite assurances of progress in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East.
