BIZARRE: Popular Nigerian Political Party Nominated, Endorsed Man as Women Leader and Old Woman as Youth Leader

A 7-man disciplinary committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chaired by Goddy Nnorom, has uncovered what it describes as “shocking anomalies” in the party structure at Isuamawu Ward 4 in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.

In its findings, the committee revealed that a man was allegedly nominated and endorsed as Women Leader, while an aged woman was selected to serve as Youth Leader, triggering outrage among youth and women members of the ward.

Describing the incident as a violation of the PDP’s internal democratic structure and a disregard for the party's guiding principles, the committee has recommended the suspension of individuals directly involved in the irregular nominations as well as those allegedly fueling crisis within the ward.

Citing a recent Supreme Court ruling which reaffirmed that political party membership and internal affairs are exclusively within the domain of the party, the disciplinary committee said it operated within the provisions of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended) in addressing the infractions.

According to the committee’s report, the selections not only defied logic but also sidelined capable and eligible youths and young women within the ward who could have legitimately occupied the positions.

The Nnorom-led committee stated:

“Recognition that the so-named infractions violated key sections of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended), including sections 58(1)-(a)(b)(d)(e)(g)(i).

Adoption of the penalty as outlined in Section 59(1)(d) of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended) in response to the violations.”

The incident adds to a string of recent disciplinary actions within the PDP, underscoring the party’s increasing commitment to internal discipline and constitutional compliance.
