Hon. Amobi Ogah, the representative of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has filed a formal petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the investigation and prosecution of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, over alleged forgery of election documents.
In the petition titled “Forgery, Uttering, and Tendering of Allied Forged Polling Unit Result Sheets Arising Out of the 2023 General Elections in Respect of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State by Hon. Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha”, Hon. Ogah claimed that the Minister submitted forged results from 63 polling units during the 2023 tribunal hearings that reversed his electoral victory.
According to Hon. Ogah, the election tribunal’s judgment in favor of Onyejeocha was based on polling unit results that differed significantly from the certified true copies officially issued by INEC offices in Umuahia and Abuja. He asserted that he had obtained his documents legally through the appropriate channels and relied on them in his tribunal defense.
"Your office had at the close of the elections issued certified copies of the Polling Units, Wards, LGAs, and constituency results relating to our Federal Constituency," Ogah said. "I obtained these documents through official channels and used them in my defense at the tribunal."
Ogah further alleged that the results presented by Onyejeocha were not only inconsistent with INEC’s certified records but were also disowned by INEC staff from both Umuahia and Abuja, including the commission’s ICT unit.
He emphasized that only one authentic result can exist per polling unit and that INEC had affirmed the legitimacy of the documents he submitted.
“It is obvious from my narrative above that these 63 Polling Unit results tendered by Hon. Onyejeocha were fake and a product of forgery,” Ogah maintained.
He therefore called on INEC to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and initiate legal action against the Minister, describing the alleged forgery as a grave offense that threatens the integrity of the electoral system.
