Govt will Deal with Fake Pastors, Native Doctors Behind Rising Crime in Anambra State – Gov Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity by addressing its root causes rather than merely pursuing criminals.

Speaking at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, where he received a Good Governance Award from Vanguard Media Limited, Soludo emphasized that eradicating crime is a crucial responsibility entrusted to him at this defining moment in Anambra’s history.

He recalled that upon assuming office nearly three years ago, non-state actors controlled seven local government areas in Anambra South. While security challenges remain, he expressed confidence that his administration’s latest measures would soon restore stability across the state.

Following the enactment of the Homeland Security Law by the Anambra State House of Assembly, the government launched the ‘Udo Ga Achi’ security initiative, with Agunechemba serving as its operational arm. Equipped with advanced logistics and patrol vehicles, the unit has intensified efforts to combat crime.

A key focus of its operations has been the crackdown on fraudulent pastors and native doctors accused of deceiving youths with false promises of wealth and leading them into criminal activities.

After receiving the Vanguard Award, Soludo declared:

“We have chosen to tackle security challenges at the foundation level. It’s not just about chasing criminals; it’s about eliminating the factors that create them. Some societal practices have fueled this crisis, and we are determined to uproot them. I am encouraged by the positive reception of our efforts.”

He noted that many parents, particularly mothers, have lamented losing their children to crime despite raising them with good values. However, his administration’s intervention has reignited hope among families.

“Many mothers have expressed their distress over losing their well-trained children to crime. But now, they are beginning to see hope. I believe this movement will be appreciated in the coming decades as a turning point for instilling positive values in this generation,” the Governor added.

Soludo also criticized the proliferation of “get-rich-quick” doctrines propagated by certain religious leaders, condemning their misleading messages and their role in fueling criminal activities.
