In a viral video circulating on social media, shrines in Enugwu-Ukwu, Nnofia, and Nimo are seen burning as the Anambra State government intensifies its crackdown on criminal elements. Continuous public announcements are being made, warning native doctors engaged in diabolic activities and other perpetrators of crime to vacate the state immediately. The Enugwu-Ukwu axis has become the latest hotspot in the government's aggressive move to rid the state of ritualists, fraudsters, and those promoting illegitimate practices.

Recall that Anambra State Government had earlier confirmed the detention of three native doctors suspected of engaging in diabolic activities, including get-rich-quick schemes linked to a charm known as Okeite. This move aligns with the provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025, aimed at purging the state of criminal elements.

According to a press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the Anambra State Executive Council, during its Monday meeting, pledged to investigate the detained native doctors thoroughly. Those found guilty will face the full weight of the law. Mefor clarified that while the government is documenting traditional medicine practitioners, it is neither registering nor granting them practice certificates.

Among those arrested are Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki from Oba, Eke Hit from Okija, and Onyebuchi Okocha, also called Onyeze Jesus from Nkpor.

Additionally, the Anambra State Government has sealed the Children of the Light Anointing Ministry, run by Pastor Onyebuchi Okocha (Onye Eze Jesus), over its alleged involvement in the controversial Okeite ritual. The church, located in Amafor village, Nkpor, Idemili North LGA, was shut down by operatives of the state security outfit Agunechemba following a Sunday raid. Various substances, containers, and ritualistic items were reportedly discovered on the premises.

This crackdown is the third high-profile operation targeting money ritualists in Anambra. In addition to arrests, the state authorities have sealed multiple shrines suspected of harboring criminal activities.

The Oke Ite charm is a concoction made from human parts, animals, and herbs mixed in a mud pot, purportedly used for money rituals. However, state authorities have identified it as a fraudulent scheme used to deceive unsuspecting victims into believing in supernatural wealth accumulation.

Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, announced the church’s closure while leading the Operation Udo Ga-Achi security team to the site. He disclosed that forensic experts would analyze various liquid substances found at the ministry and conduct examinations on River Bethsaida, where the spiritualist allegedly conducts ritualistic baths. The investigation aims to determine the potential health hazards posed by the practice.

Emeakayi emphasized that the government is not against religious practices but will not tolerate activities promoting a get-rich-quick mentality or fraudulent spiritual engagements.

In a related development, security operatives also sealed a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, in Ihiala LGA. The shrine, allegedly operated by Ekene Igboegbueze, was shut down following numerous complaints from local residents about fraudulent activities. Authorities noted that Igboegbueze promised unsuspecting individuals supernatural wealth, an act considered illegal under the Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.

“All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and properties acquired through illicit means have also been sealed,” Emeakayi stated.

Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, issued a strong warning to youths against patronizing fake native doctors and self-proclaimed pastors.

“The activities of fraudulent spiritual leaders are fueling a dangerous get-rich-quick culture in our state. We are committed to sanitizing Anambra, and anything contributing to the desecration of our society or aiding criminal elements will be eradicated,” he stated.

He urged the youth to engage in legitimate ventures to avoid falling afoul of the law, reiterating the government’s stance on restoring order and security in Anambra State.
