Stray Bullet Kills Trader Inside Market During Cult Supremacy Clash

A stray bullet, fired during a violent clash between rival cult groups, the Bobous and the Greenlanders, tragically killed a trader inside the Swali Ultra Modern Market in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on February 5, 2025. The victim, identified as Onorakpoma, was from the Emede community in Delta State. Witnesses reported that Onorakpoma was rushed to a community in Southern Ijaw LGA, but she died from her injuries before reaching her destination.

The incident has raised concerns about security around the market, especially near the slaughter area. Following the shooting, many shops along the Slaughter Road axis were closed, reportedly under orders from security forces. However, as the day went on, traders cautiously resumed business.

Bayelsa State Police confirmed the incident and revealed that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the shooting, assuring that law enforcement responded quickly to restore order in the area.
