Tinubu Sets May 10 Completion Deadline for Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

President Bola Tinubu has given MTN and RCC Company Nigeria Limited an ultimatum to complete the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway before May 10, 2026.

The Minister for Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this during a meeting with MTN regarding the slow funding and execution of the project under the Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment (Tax Credit) Scheme.

According to Umahi, MTN will be held responsible if the road fails after construction due to substandard work by the contractor, emphasizing that there will be no variation or VOP (Variation of Price) on the project. He also directed RCC to ensure that VOP operations align strictly with the Conditions of Contract and not be subject to the contractor’s discretion.

Umahi reaffirmed that the Federal Ministry of Works is fully committed to ensuring quality and timely completion of the project, stressing that MTN, as the project’s sponsor under the Tax Credit Scheme, must guarantee high standards and fast-track the construction process.
