Group Gives Azuta-Mbata 7 Days Ultimatum to Resign as Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General

The newly-elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Azuta-Mbata, has been given a seven-day ultimatum to resign from his position.

This ultimatum was issued on Tuesday, January 13, by the Rivers State Restoration Movement (RRM), shortly after Azuta-Mbata was elected President-General of the Igbo socio-political organization.

RRM’s director-general, Johnson Georgewill Sarina Akpata, stated that Azuta-Mbata’s election was both disturbing and disgraceful. The group also announced plans to stage large protests in Rivers State, Abuja, and at United Nations facilities.

The group accused Rivers State governor Siminialayi Fubara of contributing to injustice through Azuta-Mbata’s election. They questioned why the people of Rivers State should endure such humiliation, given the longstanding political ties between the Ijaw and Ikwerre people.
