Suspected armed bandits have abducted 22 people in two separate attacks in Kaduna State. The attacks occurred late Friday night around 10:30 pm in the Kugauta and Kitanda communities, located in the Kumana Chiefdom of Kauru Local Government Area.
In the Kitanda community of Geshere, 12 people, mostly women and children, were kidnapped, while 10 others were taken from the Kugauta community. Emmanuel Johnson, a student pastor and local resident, confirmed the incident, expressing concern over the growing insecurity in the region.
The communities have been facing frequent abductions, and residents have been forced to leave due to ongoing kidnappings and killings. Johnson revealed that over N60 million has been paid in ransom, but many people remain in captivity. Despite the constant attacks, there are only three police officers stationed in the area, making it difficult to secure the villages.
The residents are calling on the government to take more decisive action to address the rising insecurity. They have requested the establishment of more police stations and military bases to help protect the communities and combat the bandits.
As of now, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, has not responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
