BREAKING: Gunmen Kidnap Three Nigerian Soldiers, Over 30 Civilians in Enugu

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, over 35 people, including three Nigerian soldiers, were abducted by suspected herdsmen in Enugu-Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State. The incident occurred along the Enugu-Nsukka Road, when three buses were attacked by a group of 17 kidnappers. Initially, four Nigerian Army personnel were seized, but one soldier, PTE Usendu Emediong, managed to escape. The remaining soldiers—PTE Usoro Ezekiel Paul, PTE Jeremiah Inimbom Thomas, and PTE Victor Itiat Godwin—were taken along with over 30 civilians.

An eyewitness described the attack as lasting about an hour, during which the victims were forced into the bush. During their captivity, one of the victims was shot dead for allegedly being too tired to continue walking. Local hunters later encountered the kidnappers in the bush, and military operatives recovered the body of the victim. A helicopter was also seen hovering over the area, though there was no confirmed rescue operation at the time.

A military signal later confirmed the abduction of the soldiers, with investigations ongoing.
