BREAKING: FG Releases Date For National Youth Confab

The Federal Government has announced that the national youth conference will take place in February 2025, aiming to address pressing issues such as unemployment, education, and political inclusion. President Bola Tinubu had initially revealed the initiative in October 2024, describing it as a platform for young Nigerians to engage in policy-making and nation-building.

However, the announcement has faced criticism from youth organizations, including the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum and the Yoruba Youths Council. These groups have expressed frustration over delays in the planning of the conference, accusing the government of neglecting its promise. Some have even described the conference as a tactic to stall rather than a genuine commitment to youth development.

The conference is set to begin with grassroots engagements across federal constituencies, local governments, and states, before concluding with a week-long session in Abuja. Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande has reassured that the event will be action-oriented, with diverse youth representation and a task force in place to ensure the implementation of its recommendations.

While some young Nigerians remain hopeful about the initiative, others are skeptical, viewing the delay as a missed opportunity to address issues such as rising unemployment and social unrest. The ultimate success of the event will depend on whether it leads to tangible actions that address the concerns of the youth, rather than just remaining a platform for dialogue.
