The Executive Chairman of Igbo Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State, Barr. UgoFerdinand Ukwueze, has appointed Mr Zacheaus Ukwueze and Mr Anthony Odoh as the new Secretary and Chief Of Staff to the office of the Council Chairman respectively. The two principal officers on Thursday, November 7, 2024, assumed office instantly as they were administered with oath of office in accordance with the 1999 constitution by Barr. F.A Ezeugwu, the President of Igbo Eze South Customary CoCourt.

As the newly appointed Secretary of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Council, Mr Zacheaus Ukwueze is expected to bring both skill and dedication to the team, and with his background as a graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu in Secretarial Studies and Office Management, he will support smooth operations and serve the Council with integrity. In the same vein, Mr Tony Odoh, the brand new Chief of Staff who has a Master’s Degree from the Prestigious University of Nigeria (UNN), carries over 15 years of civil service experience. Known for his commitment to public service, Tony is excited to help the Chairman implement projects that make a real difference for the residents. Both Zacheaus and Tony were charged to bring a grassroot-focused spirit to make the council’s work more impactful.

In another development, the Executive Chairman also received the report of the 9-man committee who were given two weeks ultimatum to compile and evaluate all assets of the council. Ukwueze commended Sir. Bona Ugwuja led committee for a job well done, promising that the report will be given adequate consideration as a guide to his new administration.

In a brief speech before submitting their report, the chairman of the committee, Sir. Bona Ugwuja, expressed gratitude to Igbo South Chairman, UgoFerdinand Ukwueze, for the rare opportunity granted to them to perform such a delicate assignment for the Council. Sir Ugwuja said, “On the 7th of October, this committee was formed by you, Mr. Chairman. You gave us two weeks to carry out our task. We are pleased to submit the report of this task, which you entrusted to us, and apologize for not meeting the given timeframe. However, this delay is due to the seriousness and complexity of our assignment"
“We have gathered all accessible information and compiled it into a document, which we now hand over to you. This document contains information on the local government’s assets, ranging from infrastructure to agricultural resources. We hope the information provided will aid in the smooth running of administration”, He added.
Responding, the Igbo-Eze South Chairman, Ukwueze, praised the committee for doing a great job. In his words, “I am pleased with the information the committee has provided and very grateful to you all for making this committee a success. I congratulate the committee on the intelligent job and smart execution of their duties”
“It is the first-ever committee on asset valuation and documentation in Enugu State, and you have proven this committee worthy of the assignment given to it. The exercise of this committee has promoted other local governments to adopt similar initiatives, and I am proud to have adopted such an initiative,” said the Chairman.
“We cannot embark on a journey we have not measured, and that’s exactly what this committee was established to do. You have worked sincerely towards our progressive agenda which is in line with the Tomorrow is Here mantra of our dear Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.
He said that the his administration will study the documents carefully and will establish another committee to ensure accountability for the management of local government properties adding, “it is only through accountability that the properties of the local government can be secured and utilized effectively to serve the people,”.
Ukwueze who is also the Vice Chairman of ALGON in the state, said that the committee has made him proud, and due to their commitment to good service, they were given the opportunity to produce the Secretary of the local government and the Chief of Staff to Chairman.
“I am very happy and hope that all members of the committee will continue to do the good work they have started.” He added.
