The Federal Ministry of Education has honored Mrs. Dorothy Ukachukwu, Principal of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Abuloma, Rivers State, as an exemplary school leader. This recognition took place during the recent World Teachers’ Day celebration at Eagles Square, Abuja, an event that gathered educators, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the nation.
Mrs. Ukachukwu was presented with the award for Best School Leader and Principal. According to a statement by the Federal Ministry of Education, she was commended “for her transformative leadership that has set new standards in school administration and student achievement.” The ministry highlighted her contributions, noting that “under her visionary leadership, Federal Government Girls College Abuloma has become a model of educational innovation and excellence. Her ability to inspire both staff and students is evident in the school’s exceptional performance, particularly in science, technology, and innovation.”
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman SAN, presented Mrs. Ukachukwu with the Presidential Award for Excellence in School Leadership. He praised her commitment to fostering excellence and her ability to motivate both students and teachers, stating, “The future of Nigeria lies in the hands of the children we educate today. Through the dedication of outstanding leaders like Mrs. Ukachukwu, we will cultivate the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders. Her passion, perseverance, and commitment to excellence should inspire us all.”
With over three decades of experience in education, Mrs. Dorothy Ukachukwu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Benin. Currently serving as a Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, she is the Principal of FGGC Abuloma, and her professional affiliations include the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, African Principals Conference Initiative (APCI), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TCRN), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), and the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).
In a related development, the Federal Ministry of Education also awarded Federal Government Girls College, Akwa Ibom State, as the Best Unity School of 2024 in recognition of its outstanding academic performance, extracurricular achievements, and community engagement.
