HAPPENING NOW! Police Neutralize Deadly Criminal Gangs Suspected to be Linked to Popular Person, Recover Vehicles, Firearms

Nigerian police officers successfully thwarted an attack by criminal gangs believed to be affiliated with the Finland-based Simon Ekpa boys. The confrontation unfolded on October 30th, 2024, along the Owerri/Aba Road, near Owerri Airport. Around 6:05 am, a police patrol team found themselves under ambush by assailants reportedly numbering about ten, spread across two vehicles.

Under the command of ASP Anwakang Effiong, the patrol team, initially conducting routine security checks, demonstrated remarkable bravery and tactical skill when the suspects attacked. Rather than retreat, the officers confronted the attackers with superior firepower. During this intense engagement, the police neutralized one suspect and recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of 9.62mm live ammunition. The remaining assailants fled into the surrounding bush, several sustaining gunshot wounds in the retreat. Despite extensive search efforts in the vicinity, no additional suspects were apprehended.

In addition to the rifle, a Mercedes 4MATIC jeep with Lagos State registration AAA 101 GR, believed to belong to the attackers, was recovered. The vehicle and other seized items have since been transferred to the Command Headquarters for further examination.

This incident underscores growing security concerns in the region, especially in connection with the activities of gangs linked to Simon Ekpa, who has been under scrutiny for his influence on criminal operations. The Nigerian police have reiterated their commitment to neutralizing such threats and ensuring public safety. They continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity related to these groups.

The authorities have intensified efforts to dismantle these criminal networks, which are reportedly responsible for various violent crimes and disruptions to public order.
