Enugu State Govt Commissions State-of-the-art Science Laboratory Facility Renovated and Equipped by MTN Foundation


In a touching display of corporate responsibility and love for education, the MTN Foundation has gone beyond expectations by renovating and equipping a cutting-edge science laboratory at Union Boys Secondary School, Enugu, while also providing training for the teachers who will run the lab. This remarkable contribution is aimed at empowering students and transforming their educational experience.


At the commissioning ceremony, Engr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, the Enugu State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, represented Governor Peter Mbah and couldn’t hold back his admiration for the MTN Foundation’s involvement. He showered praise on the telecommunications company, commending them for their deep commitment to improving education in the state.


"MTN Foundation didn’t just stop at renovating this lab—they equipped it with state-of-the-art facilities and went the extra mile by training the teachers who will guide our students in their scientific explorations. This is a shining example of what it means to truly care about a community," Engr. Ezeh remarked, his voice full of gratitude.


He highlighted that MTN Foundation’s initiative is more than just about infrastructure—it’s about providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to compete globally in science and technology. He added that the Enugu State Government remains committed to boosting education and health services across the state, with plans to upgrade primary healthcare centers in Awgu, Igboeze North, and Enugu North LGAs.


MTN Foundation’s Director of Communication, Mrs. Sonia, echoed the sentiments of partnership, stating that the company’s mission is to empower communities through education. "This science laboratory isn’t just a building; it’s a tool for shaping futures. By equipping it with the latest technology and ensuring the teachers are trained, we’re making sure students have everything they need to succeed," she said, visibly proud of MTN Foundation’s role in the project.


Rev. Ifeanyi Eze, the overjoyed Principal of Union Boys Secondary School, expressed heartfelt thanks to both the MTN Foundation and the state government for their support. "MTN Foundation has given us more than we ever imagined. They’ve not only provided an incredible science lab, but they’ve also ensured our teachers are well-prepared to help the students make the most of it. We are forever grateful," he said, his voice brimming with excitement.


The day’s celebration was filled with joy and gratitude, as dignitaries, parents, and members of the Union Boys Secondary School Old Boys Association came together to witness the unveiling. Students added a lively touch to the occasion with a welcome song, a debate competition, and traditional dances, celebrating the new opportunities that the science lab will bring to their academic journey.


The MTN Foundation’s dedication to education and community development has left a lasting impression in Enugu. By renovating and equipping the new science lab, along with training the staff, they have not only enhanced the learning environment but have also set a solid foundation for future discoveries and success among students at Union Boys Secondary School.
