Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Command, commonly referred to as the Sharia Police, have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Commissioner of Special Duties in Jigawa State, over allegations of adultery. The commissioner was reportedly found in a compromising situation with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, after a complaint was lodged by her husband, Nasir Bulama, a resident of Kano.
According to an anonymous Hisbah official, the arrest followed a surveillance operation based on Bulama’s suspicions. He alleged that his wife, who is also the mother of his two children, was involved in an illicit affair with the commissioner.
The official detailed the events leading to the arrest, stating: “After receiving the complaint, we launched a surveillance exercise, and on Thursday night, we caught the two of them entering an uncompleted building owned by the commissioner. When our operatives knocked, Sankara came out with his gateman, while the woman was seated inside a vehicle. Upon seeing our team and her husband, she attempted to flee, damaging both the wall and the gate in the process.”
The commissioner reportedly admitted to having an affair with the woman on at least three occasions. Hisbah officials have confirmed that further investigation will follow, after which the case will be taken to court.
Abba Sufi, the Director General of Hisbah, confirmed the arrest and detention of Auwal Danladi Sankara. He expressed concern over Sankara’s alleged involvement in other illicit activities, stating, “We have had issues with Sankara for operating illegal drug centers under the guise of hotels, facilitating prostitution and drug addiction.”
Sufi disclosed that the Hisbah Command intends to prosecute Sankara in court on Monday.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of the Hisbah Command to enforce Sharia law in Kano State, particularly in cases involving moral conduct.
