BREAKING: Nigerians Refute Tinubu’s Statement "We have Defeated Boko Haram and Bandits in One Year" During Independence Day Broadcast

In his Independence Day broadcast today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation, acknowledging the economic difficulties faced by millions of Nigerians. With the rising cost of living and unemployment concerns, the President reassured citizens that the government is working on sustainable solutions to ease their suffering.

“We know Nigerians are suffering,” the President said, recognizing the struggles many face amid economic reforms. He emphasized the administration's commitment to alleviating these hardships, urging patience as the country begins to see the positive effects of various reforms. "There is light at the end of the tunnel," Tinubu declared, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to improving the economy and the livelihoods of all Nigerians.

Reflecting on the country's journey since independence 64 years ago, the President lauded the resilience of Nigerians and the nation’s ability to overcome various crises, including the civil war. He praised the nation for maintaining its sovereignty and unity despite numerous challenges, highlighting Nigeria's accomplishments in intellectual and industrial endeavors.

On security, Tinubu shared positive developments in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes. He reported that over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders had been eliminated within the last year, and peace had been restored to hundreds of communities in the North. The President promised continued efforts to secure the nation and allow farmers to return to their lands, ensuring food production would increase and food costs would decline.

Addressing recent natural disasters, particularly the devastating floods in the country, the President noted the government's swift response, including the establishment of a Disaster Relief Fund. He also announced that all dams across the country would undergo integrity tests to prevent future flooding.

President Tinubu acknowledged the economic challenges inherited by his administration 16 months ago and detailed the reforms being implemented to stabilize and grow the economy. He highlighted the over $30 billion in foreign direct investments attracted to the country in the past year and shared the government’s plans for boosting oil and gas production through strategic divestments.

In a move aimed at fostering national unity, the President revealed plans for a National Youth Conference, a 30-day gathering of young Nigerians to address pressing issues such as education, employment, and innovation. He emphasized the importance of engaging the youth, who make up more than 60% of the population, in the nation’s future.

As Nigeria celebrates its 64th year of independence, Tinubu called on citizens to remain hopeful and resilient, reminding them that, despite the challenges, better days are ahead. "We are Nigerians—resilient and tenacious. We always prevail," he said, urging Nigerians to believe in the nation's promise and join his administration in building a greater, more prosperous country for future generations.

As the broadcast concluded, the President wished all Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary and prayed for continued peace and unity across the country.
