BREAKING: INEC Announces Date For Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the date for the Anambra State Governorship election, which will take place on Saturday, 8th November 2025. This was revealed by the INEC national chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, during a briefing with representatives of political parties at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 17th October 2024.

Prof. Yakubu stated that the election date is in line with the statutory timeline, given that the last governorship election in the state occurred on 6th November 2021. He emphasized that by the passage of time, the governorship election is now due next year, following the mandatory constitutional requirements.

INEC has also outlined the key activities leading up to the election. The formal notice for the election will be published on 13th November 2024, with party primaries scheduled between 20th March 2025 and 10th April 2025. Furthermore, the candidate nomination portal will be accessible from 9:00 am on 18th April 2025, closing by 6:00 pm on 12th May 2025. The final list of candidates will be made public on 9th June 2025.

Political parties are allowed to begin their campaigns in public from 11th June 2025, which will continue until midnight on Thursday, 6th November 2025. Voting will be conducted across all 5,720 polling units in Anambra State.

In his address, Prof. Yakubu also mentioned that in the coming weeks, INEC will provide further details regarding other electoral processes, including voter registration, transfer of voter details, and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He concluded by assuring the public that the detailed timetable and schedule of activities for the election will be available on INEC’s official website and social media platforms shortly.
