BREAKING: Governor Splashes ₦47.8 Million on Best Teachers to Mark 2024 World Teachers' Day

Ekiti State marked World Teachers' Day with a grand celebration, during which Governor Biodun Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers across the state. Represented by his deputy, Monisade Afuye, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the state's dedication to upholding educational standards by eradicating examination malpractices and ensuring the integrity of the academic system.

During the event in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, teachers who excelled in various categories were rewarded with a total of ₦47.8 million in cash gifts. This significant gesture underscores the government's recognition of the critical role teachers play in shaping the future of the state’s youth.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Daodu, praised Governor Oyebanji’s contributions to strengthening the education sector. He urged the state government to implement policies aimed at curbing brain drain, thus retaining top talent within the teaching profession.

Additionally, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (AASUSS), Sola Adigun, appealed to the government to allow secondary school teachers the opportunity to advance to grade level 17. This, he argued, would ensure better career progression and enhance the professional development of teachers in the state.

The celebration of teachers, which coincided with the global recognition of their importance, highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to improve education and support the workforce that powers its growth.
