2027: Over 960 APC Members Decamp to NNPP

More than 960 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State have officially defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The defection was led by Alhaji Baba Sabiu, the Chairman of the APC in Dala Local Government Area, and marks a significant shift ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024.

This wave of defections includes former councillors from 12 wards within the Dala Local Government Area. They cited their desire for progressive change as the main motivation for their decision to join the NNPP. Alhaji Sabiu, speaking on behalf of the defectors, expressed optimism about the NNPP's capacity to bring about meaningful reforms and to improve its electoral standing in the upcoming elections.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the NNPP, personally welcomed the new members into the party. He assured them that they would be treated equally within the party's ranks. Kwankwaso used the opportunity to reaffirm the party’s commitment to driving socio-economic and political progress across Nigeria. He emphasized the NNPP's vision for a brighter future and highlighted their focus on building momentum toward the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso also urged residents of Kano State and citizens across Nigeria to actively support the NNPP candidates in the upcoming elections. He stressed the importance of voter participation, underscoring the party’s vision for unity and progress in the country.

This mass defection from the APC to the NNPP is seen as a potential turning point in Kano State politics, as the NNPP continues to build support in the lead-up to both the local government elections and the broader political landscape in Nigeria.
