UNGA 79th Session: Chief Uche Nnaji and Amina Mohammed Discuss Homegrown Technology in Nigeria

Earlier today, during the ongoing 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, Nigeria's Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, engaged in a bilateral discussion with Amina J. Mohammed, the UN Deputy Secretary-General. The focus of their talks was on harnessing and advancing homegrown technology in Nigeria, with an emphasis on strengthening partnerships between the Nigerian Ministry of Innovation and the United Nations.

Amina Mohammed stressed the need for innovative solutions and collaboration to help Nigeria achieve its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She encouraged more multilateral partnerships and highlighted the potential of Nigeria to compete globally by promoting innovation in key sectors like renewable energy, agriculture, and technology.

The 79th session of the UNGA, tagged "Summit of the Future," underscored the urgent need for international cooperation to address global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. Representing President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, led a delegation of key ministers, including Chief Nnaji, to the summit.

Chief Nnaji stood out for his data-driven presentation on the vast investment opportunities in Nigeria, including renewable energy and agro-allied industries. His leadership in the Ministry of Innovation has led to several ongoing projects aimed at positioning Nigeria as a hub for innovation and economic growth.
