TRAGEDY: Truck Crushes Family of Six to Death

In a heartbreaking accident that shook the town of Gusau in Zamfara State, a family of six tragically lost their lives in the early hours of Sunday, September 29, 2024. The victims, including an infant, were riding on a motorcycle when they were struck by a truck near Gusau Hotel, leaving the entire family dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses report that the motorcycle was involved in a high-speed collision with the truck near the Gusau Waterboard. This incident has left the local community in shock, as expressed by social media user @Kdankasa, who posted, “Innalillahi wainna ilaihi-rraji’un. Six people died after their motorcycle collided with a truck near Gusau town today. May God forgive them all and may their souls rest in peace.”

The Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the tragic event but could not provide further details as the investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing. “The incident happened but it is still under investigation,” ASP Abubakar stated. “The six victims are all dead.”

This devastating accident comes amidst rising concerns over the increasing number of truck-related accidents across Nigeria. In June, the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) held a meeting with oil industry regulators, operators, and enforcement agencies to address this issue. MEMAN's Executive Secretary, Mr. Clement Isong, emphasized the urgent need to mitigate these accidents and ensure safer roads for all.

The tragic loss of this family has left many questioning the state of road safety and the regulatory measures in place to prevent such accidents from reoccurring. As the investigation continues, calls for more stringent truck regulations and improved road safety measures grow louder, with hopes that tragedies like this can be avoided in the future.

Our hearts go out to the family and those affected by this tragic accident. May their souls rest in peace.
