NAF Airstrikes Kill 28 Terrorists

In a major counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrikes have successfully neutralized 28 terrorists in the Bassa community, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The airstrikes, which took place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, were launched following a distress call from ground forces engaged in intense combat with insurgents.

The Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday, September 12. He detailed that the NAF’s air assets were deployed after more than 100 terrorists were spotted attacking friendly forces in a fierce firefight. Once the positions of the friendly troops were identified, NAF conducted precision airstrikes, which resulted in devastating losses for the terrorist group.

Ali emphasized the efficiency of the operation, stating, "The strikes were devastating, neutralizing dozens of terrorists in successive passes. As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared."

This successful operation highlights the NAF's relentless commitment to protecting Nigeria's territorial integrity and supporting ground forces in combating insurgency, banditry, and other forms of criminality. Group Captain Ali reiterated that NAF would continue its efforts in close coordination with other security agencies to ensure peace and stability across the country.

The Nigerian Air Force, alongside the Nigerian Army and other security forces, has been intensifying efforts to neutralize terrorist cells across the country. These operations are part of a broader strategy to restore peace to troubled regions, especially in Niger State, which has witnessed numerous insurgent attacks in recent months.

This air operation is seen as a decisive step in addressing the rising insecurity and demonstrates the advanced capabilities of Nigeria’s military forces in combating terrorism. With further air support missions expected in the coming weeks, the NAF remains committed to eliminating threats to national security.
