The Enugu South Local Government Chairmanship Candidate ahead of 21st September, 2024 Enugu State Local Government Election, Hon. Caleb Ani and his running mate Hon. Anthony Egbo has received no fewer than three hundred and seventy (370) defectors from the opposition Labour Party (LP) in Enugu South Local Government Area, precisely, at Achara Layout East Ward 7, which he said will greatly increase the opportunity of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and it's chairmanship candidate, and councilorship candidate in the ward, Hon. Ginika Nwosu to clinch unto victory, in the September 21st, Enugu State Local Government Election.
The defection took place on Friday, 13th September 2024, while the Enugu South People's Democratic Party, together with the campaign train of Hon. Caleb Ani, Anthony Egbo and for all the thirteen ward councilorship candidates of the PDP stormed Achara Layout to woo voters ahead of the forthcoming Enugu State Local Government Election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st September, 2024.
While receiving the defectors from ward 7 of the local government area, the People's Democratic Party's Chairman, Freedom Nnam, former member Enugu State House of Assembly and candidate of Enugu South Urban Constituency, Hon. Sam Okechukwu Ngene and other leaders of Ward 7, such as Hon. Paul Ogbe who is the campaign coordinator of Caleb Ani Campaign organization, said the defectors has expressed that the PDP has become the beautiful pride of Enugu State, especially to the people of Enugu South due to remarkable achievements recorded by the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the past one year.
Reacting to the new turn of event, Caleb Ani affirmed that "Enugu South LGA is a PDP stronghold and the formidable pair of the party. While welcoming the returnees to the party, he maintained that, Enugu State has become an attraction to well-meaning citizens and residents of the State, which his administration will improve on to continue consolidating the Peter Mbah-led administration. "He further urged them through their spokesperson to join hands with the party faithful to harvest those remaining in their former party and other opposition parties in the State to vote for PDP in Enugu South come September, 21st 2024.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the former Labour Party Chairman, Achara Layout East Ward 7, Hon. Okechukwu Anikputa, described the PDP as the party that would deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Enugu South and Enugu State at large following the huge presence of infrastructure development by the State Governor, Peter Mbah. He promised on behalf of his colleagues to work and deliver PDP come the 21st September, 2024 election.
In another development, the people of Uwani East Ward 5 in Enugu South LGA equally expressed their readiness to canvass and deliver the party during the LGA election as the campaign train stormed the area to woo voters ahead of the LG election.
Speaking on behalf of the Ward 5 PDP leaders and residents, flag bearer of PDP, Enugu South Urban Constituency, Hon. Sam Okechukwu Ngene (Anointed David), former deputy Chairman of Enugu South LG, Hon. Dr. Sandra Akuabata Onyia, former leader of Enugu South, Hon. Barr. Francis Ani, Ward 5 Councilorship candidate, Hon. (Mrs) Ogechukwu Deborah (Ojiugo nwanyi) Chairman of the ward Hon. Prince Ifeanyi (Onwa n'solo) amongst others expressed that, it's time for Ward 5 to amend the expression of the last election by voting and delivering the entire polling units to PDP come 21st September, 2024 election.
Earlier, the Hon. Caleb Ani campaign train had stormed Timber Market Union Enugu, Old Kenyatta Market Enugu, Afor Awkunanaw Market Garriki, Enugu, and New Garriki Cattle Market Enugu.
Addressing the leaders and members of the various markets during the visitations, Enugu South PDP flag bearer, Hon. Caleb Ani maintained that, his administration will be all inclusive governance regardless of political affiliation. He assured them of unification of work with his deputy, Hon. Anthony Egbo to ensure that, the various markets needs are meant based on availability of resources, as their main aim is to work and improve on the developmental strides of Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah within Local Government Council.
Speaking at the one of the markets on Friday, the member representing Enugu South Rural Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon (Mrs) Princess Obiajulu Ugwu also affirmed the political readiness of Hon. Caleb Ani and Hon Anthony Egbo to lead the people of Enugu South. Describing Caleb Ani as a grassroot leader before Ndi Afor Awkunanaw Market.
Responding to the message of the campaign team at the various markets, the Chairman of Afor Awkunanaw Market, Hon. Emeka Cojack Egbonnaji, Chairman of Timber Market Union Enugu, Chief Ugochukwu Nwatu, Chairman of Old Kenyatta Market, Hon. Chinweuba Igweshi assured the team of their readiness to vote for the party as the entire markets traders are core members of PDP.
On their part, the leaders of Hausa Community at New Garriki Cattle Market, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, SSA to former Governor of Enugu State, Alhaji Suleman, Sule Sariki, and Alhaji Baba Ali, Chairman Garriki Cattle traders also pledged their support to PDP, while maintaining that, Enugu South PDP has been favorably to them.
The New Gariki Market leaders equally asked the incoming Mayor to remember them in his developmental stride's agenda, citing road construction as one of their major needs within the market arena.
