BREAKING: PDP Suspends Dino Melaye, Denies Summoning Wike for Anti Party Behavior

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has suspended its former governorship candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, for alleged anti-party activities. The suspension was announced by the party’s executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, in a memo dated September 12, 2024.

According to the memo, the Ward Party Executive Committee convened to review a report from the disciplinary committee investigating accusations of misconduct and anti-party behavior against Melaye. Despite being summoned to appear before the committee on August 20, 2024, Melaye allegedly failed to respond or defend himself against the allegations.

The memo stated, “His refusal to attend the meeting demonstrates gross disrespect for the party, and his actions have caused embarrassment and disrepute. As a result, the Ward Party Exco has decided to suspend Senator Dino Melaye from the PDP effective immediately.”

The PDP emphasized that the suspension aligns with the party’s constitution, which allows ward executives to take disciplinary actions against members violating party protocols. The party encouraged members to uphold discipline and loyalty to strengthen the organization.

In a related development, the PDP has denied summoning the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for alleged anti-party speeches. Rumors had circulated that Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, was being targeted for disciplinary action due to his outspoken criticism of the party. However, a spokesperson for the PDP’s National Disciplinary Committee clarified that no summons was issued to Wike.

The spokesperson added, “Contrary to reports, we have not summoned Minister Nyesom Wike. Any claims suggesting otherwise are baseless. The committee remains committed to fairness and due process.”

This development highlights the party’s ongoing internal challenges as it attempts to maintain unity and discipline ahead of upcoming elections.
