Insecurity Worsens as Terrorists Kill 12 Persons at Mining Site in Niger State, Abduct Several Others

In a recent attack, suspected terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits, stormed Unguwar Magero village in Gurmana ward of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. The attackers targeted a local mining site, resulting in the tragic death of approximately 13 individuals. Witnesses reported that the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, leaving a devastating scene behind.

Unguwar Magero, a community near the already troubled Madaka and Magami communities, has been suffering from frequent bandit attacks. Some sources indicate that the death toll may be even higher, with the exact number of victims still unconfirmed.

In a related incident, bandits also struck Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area on Tuesday, where they abducted an unspecified number of people. These consecutive attacks have intensified fear among local residents as the violence escalates.

Niger State Acting Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, condemned the attacks on Rafi and Shiroro local government areas, describing them as "satanic, insensible, atrocious, and callous." In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Acting Governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, labeling the acts as barbaric. He extended his condolences to the affected families and communities, offering prayers for the souls of the departed and a quick recovery for those injured.

The Acting Governor reiterated the Bago-led administration's commitment to addressing the growing insecurity in the state. He urged security agencies to remain resolute despite these challenges, promising full support to ensure victory over the perpetrators of such heinous acts.
