JAMB Announces Minimum Scores for Universities, Other Tertiary Institutions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the minimum tolerance scores required for admissions into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. This announcement was made during the ongoing Policy Meeting in Abuja, where key stakeholders gathered to discuss and set the parameters for the upcoming admission cycle.

Minimum Tolerance Scores

For the 2024/2025 academic session, JAMB has set the following minimum tolerance scores:

Universities: 140

Polytechnics and Colleges of Education: 100

Clarification on Tolerance Scores

Professor Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB’s Registrar, emphasized that these scores are to be understood as minimum tolerance levels rather than cut-off marks. "The scores are minimum tolerance, not cut-off marks, to avoid misunderstanding among candidates," Oloyede stated. This clarification is crucial to ensure that prospective students and institutions alike do not misconstrue the stipulated scores as rigid cut-off points but rather as the lowest acceptable scores for consideration in the admission process.

The Policy Meeting, which includes the heads of various tertiary institutions across Nigeria and other significant stakeholders in the education sector, plays a critical role in shaping the admission landscape each year. The decisions made during this meeting set the tone for admissions, ensuring a standardized and fair process for all candidates.

As the meeting continues, further guidelines and policies are expected to be outlined to streamline the admission procedures, ensuring they align with the educational standards and goals of the nation.

The announcement of these minimum tolerance scores is a key step in the admission process, providing clarity and direction for candidates preparing to apply to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in the forthcoming academic year.
